LEAN Office Damaged By Gustav |
|
|
We continue our work un-daunted

We hope that this note finds you safe. We wanted to let everyone know that we at
LEAN are OK, though the LEAN office was not quite so lucky. Hurricane
Gustav hit Baton Rouge quite hard. There is widespread damage to trees,
roofs and the power grid. Many homes remain without power today,
including the LEAN office. The LEAN office roof was damaged pretty
badly (as you can see in the picture). Rainwater came through the
sheathing and caused the ceiling inside to collapse underneath. Making
the situation significantly more inconvenient is a lack of electricity.
The LEAN office is in a part of town that may not have its power
reconnected for another 18 days! But don't worry, Marylee has been hard
at work the whole time from her remote office, aka. her home;) We have
picked ourselves up and are dusting ourselves off and are getting back
to work helping to make Louisiana a safer and healthier place.
Some of our partners from our Katrina / Rita relief work have contacted us about providing relief for Gustav. So far we have helped Mr. Steve Menard, recipient of the LEAN Hands of Hope award, to help ranchers in Acadiana prepare horses and cattle for the storm and to get medicines for those animals since the storm. We are also in the process of assisting a community of Native Americans in the Houma area that are having a particularly difficult time.
We will keep everyone posted about our situation and about our relief efforts. We don't know how much relief we will be able to provide this time, however, we are committed to helping the citizens of Louisiana as best we can.
