Save Lake Peigneur Inc. asks Governor Jindal to Stop Salt Dome Storage Expansion

Post: August 13 2012 in: Public Health
The sinkhole in Bayou Corne has raised many questions and concerns about the industrial utilization of salt formations and the possible impacts to our environment and communities. Last week, Nara Crowley, of Save Lake Peignuer Inc., wrote to AGL Resources and Governor Bobby Jindal requesting the denial of the proposed expansion in the Jefferson Island Salt Dome in Iberia Parish. Below is a note from Mrs Crowley and the letters to AGL Resources and Governor Bobby Jindal.
Dear Friends:

Below are letters sent to Governor Jindal and AGL Resources. We
have asked for AGL Resources/Jefferson Island Storage & Hub to withdraw their permit application for salt cavern storage expansion. We have asked Governor Jindal to use privilege as Governor to deny the permit application and block any further development of cavern storage at the Jefferson Island Salt Dome if AGL Resources chooses not to withdraw their application.

We have watched the very unfortunate crisis unravel at the Napoleanville Salt Dome. We have attempted to stop the expansion at Jefferson Island Salt Dome for nearly eight years for all the reasons occurring at the Napoleanville Salt Dome. We ask for your support by writing to your state representatives and senators asking them to publicly request AGL Resources to withdraw their permit application. The company, our Governor and officials have the opportunity to do what is right for its' citizens by requesting the withdrawal of the Jefferson Island salt cavern expansion permit application.

Thank you.
Nara Crowley and the Board of Directors,
Save Lake Peigneur, Inc.
