As I am sure you are all aware Transocean Deepwater Horizon drilling platform experienced an explosion in the Gulf of Mexico yesterday and the latest reports are that it has now sunk below the surface.

These tragic events bring into sharp focus the tremendous pressure that we humans but on our oceans.

The good news is that there are many wonderful people working on helping out our oceans and you can too. One of those people is LEAN's very own Wilma Subra!

Wilma was given her very own chapter in the new book by last years LEAN Conference keynote speaker Jon Bowermaster titled OCEANS: The Threats to Our Seas ans What You Can Do to Turn the Tide.

Oceans, The threat to our seas and what
you can do to turn the tide. OCEANS gathers some of the most insightful visionaries, explorers and ocean lovers - marine biologists, politicians, environmentalists, fishermen, sportsmen, deep divers - to provide a compelling guide to the state of our planet's largest habitat. More than 70 percent of the globe is covered by ocean and half the world's human population lives within minutes of a coastline. Rich with resources and potential - as a source of renewable energy, life-saving drugs, food - our oceans have long been thought of as both infinite and undamageable. But they are not. Overfishing, climate change, pollution, acidification, dead zones and more have put the world's ocean and marine life at great risk, We must take action now if we want to save our seas for future generations.

Wilma Subra's chapter in OceansWilma's chapter focuses on Dead Zones and the Gulf of Mexico Dead Zone in particular.

Wilma is in some impressive company with chapters by the likes of Sylvia Earle, Celine Cousteau, John Cronin, Captain Paul Watson David de Rothschild and Leonardo DiCaprio.

The book is also a companion volume to the spectacular film Oceans,in which filmmakers Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud explore the splendor of the world's seas, coming this April from Disney & National Geographic.
