Another Victory for LEAN and The Green Army.
Consisting of nearly 3000 acres, the proposed request to rezone the MYU Family LLC “Mayeux Property” on River Rd. in ST. Gabriel from residential(R1) to heavy industrial(M2) has been pulled by the landowner.
This area has seen a lot of growth in residential development and the development of this property into a Heavy Industrial site would be inappropriate for the surrounding residential communities. An industrial facility at this location had the potential to create significant risks for the surrounding residents while also potentially degrading residential property values. This area should remain free from heavy industrial development in the interest of the health, safety and quality of life of the citizens of St Gabriel and the surrounding areas as well as the economic future of those residents.
Appropriate land usage that is safe and beneficial for the community as a whole can only be achieved through citizen activism and action.
The Louisiana Environmental Action Network has worked to address the conflicts that arise between community and industry in Louisiana for almost 30 years. Thoughtful and appropriate land use choices could have prevented many of the conflicts we see play out over and over again in communities across Louisiana. We are committed to create healthy communities in Louisiana.
LEAN, on behalf of our members living in St Gabriel and the greater community as a whole thanks you for your support.
