Like Selma Alabama is to the Civil Rights Movement, Louisiana is to the Environmental Justice Movement.
- Bill Moyers
LEAN has been witness to this unique history, carrying the memories and lessons of the heroes of Louisiana’s Environmental Justice movement. Since LEAN’s inception, staff have recorded and documented the environmental justice issues experienced by communities across Louisiana as a standard part of LEAN’s work. In 2017, LEAN began formally building our ‘Community Archive’ to preserve and honor the unique history of Louisiana’s community evolution. This collection of photos, videos, news articles, audio recordings and various other media, is organized online as LEAN's Community Atlas. Through this effort, we hope this history can be explored and put to use in the education and empowerment of those working to address today’s challenges.
