Louisiana has been a site of resource extraction for the United States and the globe for centuries. This history has been instrumental in the growth of our country, but also represents a myriad of challenges and trade-offs including a legacy of slavery, environmental degradation, and regulatory capture. This atlas aims to explore Louisiana's current and past environmental challenges from the last 40+ years through a collection of news articles, videos, photographs, oral histories, public comments, legal actions, and other media. These struggles represent Louisiana's history as the heart of the environmental justice movement in the United States. This is a living document continually under construction.
