Gramercy

Dust and particulate emissions of bauxite and alumina are being deposited on property around the Noranda facility on both the east and west banks of the Mississippi River. These particulate emissions contain levels of mercury which are being deposited in the environment and impacting community members as well as workers at the facility. The particulate matter emissions have exceeded permitted levels. Noranda is the largest emitter of mercury into the air in the state of Louisiana. Despite complaints from residents and concerns from environmental groups, the facility received a permit from LDEQ to release mercury and continues to impact the surrounding area.
